What you keep depends on whether you dismantle your old gear, overwrite it with a new rune, or use it as material for a performance upgrade before moving to new gear. This page collects only the rules written in the official Korean Erinn Guide and FAQ in one table. Anything not in the official documents is marked "Not stated officially."
What stays and what is lost, by action
| Action | Engraving Enhancement tier and points | Rune | Gems |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dismantle gear | The enhancement tier is reset, and only some of the Rune Fragments spent on Engraving Enhancement are returned. | The engraved rune is returned (the enhancement tier is not kept). | Not stated officially |
| Engrave a new rune (overwrite) | Accumulated enhancement points are kept as they are. The Engraving Enhancement tier may change depending on the tier difference between the old rune and the new rune. | The old rune is dismantled into Rune Fragments, Spirit Traces, and similar materials. However, Legendary and Mythic runes of ★8 or higher are returned. | Not stated officially |
| Performance upgrade: the gear being upgraded | The enhancement points of the target gear are kept. | Not stated officially | If the material gear has more gem slots, its slot count is applied. |
| Performance upgrade: the gear used as material | The enhancement points built up on the material gear are not preserved and are lost. | Not stated officially | Not stated officially |
| First class advancement (returning the apprentice weapon) | — | The engraved rune is moved to the new advancement weapon. | Equipped gems are also moved to the new advancement weapon. |
A performance upgrade is an alchemy that replaces the target gear's base performance, name, and appearance with those of the material gear. The apprentice weapon disappears upon class advancement (official FAQ).
Engraving Enhancement rules
- Engraving Enhancement goes up to 20 tiers, and you do it by talking to a blacksmith NPC or sitting at a campfire.
- The materials are Rune Fragments and gold. The higher the rune tier and the Engraving Enhancement tier, the more it costs.
- On success, the enhancement grade rises by 1, the rune's stats go up, and the gear's curse is lifted.
- On failure, you gain a few enhancement points and the gear becomes cursed.
- Once the enhancement points are completely filled, the Engraving Enhancement tier is guaranteed to rise.
- Based on accumulated enhancement points, the main stats (Attack, Defense, and bonus HP) go up.
Rune rarity, curses, and Engraving Reset
- When you engrave a rune, the rune's rarity is applied to the gear. Engraving a rune of lower rarity lowers the gear's rarity (official FAQ).
- Cursed gear has lower stats, has limited dismantling and repair, and cannot be used as an alchemy material.
- A curse can be lifted with a Curse Removal Potion. As of the June 25, 2026 update, Rune Fragments are no longer used as a curse removal material.
- Engraving Reset is a feature that re-rolls combat stats while keeping the rune's unique ability. It requires a Rune Reset Prism and becomes available after you progress the quest 「폭군 토벌 물품 납품」.
Gems: Upgrade and Combine
- Gems are equipped in the gear's gem slots.
- Upgrade: combine several gems of the same tier and same type to make a gem one tier higher.
- Combine: combine gems of the same tier but different types to make a Star Prism. Combining requires gems of the 'Crude' or 'Crude S' tier.
FAQ
- If I dismantle enhanced gear, do I get the rune back?
- Yes. The engraved rune is returned, but the Engraving Enhancement tier is reset, and only some of the Rune Fragments spent on enhancement come back.
- What happens to equipped gems when I dismantle gear?
- The official Korean Erinn Guide has no text about what happens to equipped gems when you dismantle gear. Because it is unconfirmed, this page does not state anything definitively.
- What happens to enhancement points when I do a performance upgrade?
- The enhancement points of the target gear are kept, and the enhancement points of the gear used as material are lost.
- Do enhancement points disappear when I engrave a new rune?
- No. Accumulated enhancement points are kept as they are, but the Engraving Enhancement tier may change depending on the tier difference between the old rune and the new rune.
